The 8/8 Collective Listening Session

Window: Aug 6 to Aug 10

The gate is open.

A short sound journey from Embers. Ten quiet minutes, whenever you want them, between now and August 10. If you're able to join, you won't be the only one pressing play at 8:08pm for a special collective listening session.

Every August a star named Sirius rises just ahead of the sun, and for longer than anyone can trace, people have called that moment a gate. Nobody can tell you what a gate opens, only that thresholds ask something of us: a word held clearly, an intention we're willing to name. When many people hold their word at the same instant, on purpose, that word carries differently.

The shared moment is 8:08 PM Mountain on Aug 8, wherever that lands for you.

Come at 8:08 for the shared moment, or come any time. The audio stays open through the end of the day on August 10.

Before you press play.

One question, held at the door:
What do you want on the other side of this door?

Optional. Writing it down or holding it quietly both count.

And what is your name and email?

Headphones recommended

This is a sound-only session. Soon the Embers Online community will launch with our special app that uses a soothing flicker of the flash on the phone to pair with the audio.

The Listen

Ten quiet minutes.

A short spoken opening called The Gate plays first.
Then the session itself. Let it run.

Choose one word. Not the whole plan, just the word. Then let the ember glow.

The Gate, in words

The spoken opening, written out. If the audio hasn't loaded for you, the words are all here.

Long before anyone had a word for meditation, people sat around the fire to help reset. No technique, no goal, just proximity to something warm and steady until whatever was tight in the chest loosened on its own. That is the whole instruction tonight. You do not have to do anything except stay near the warmth and let yourself come back to center.

Welcome to the Embers community.

Put your headphones on if you have them. Let your eyes close, or let them rest softly if closing them is too much tonight. For the next ten minutes nothing is required of you but staying. An ember doesn't ask to be a fire again. It just holds its heat, quietly, for longer than it looks like it will.

Somewhere in these ten minutes, a word may rise on its own. Don't go looking for it. If it comes, hold it the way you would hold an ember: loosely, so it doesn't go out in your grip, and so it can do what embers do, carry you back to yourself. Choose one word. Not the whole plan, just the word. Then let the ember glow.

When the session ends, come back to the page.

Reflect

One line, if you want.

What shifted, or didn't. Nothing much happened is a real answer. So is everything. Both count.

That's the whole thing.

The closing words

However it landed, that's real. We'll let you know when we do this together again. The journey is yours either way.

Carry the ember.

If there's someone who could use ten quiet minutes this week, send them one. Add one line of your own. They don't need to do anything with it. That's the whole gift.

You left your email at the door, so when the next one opens, you'll hear about it. The ten minutes were yours either way.
